Measurement, Modelling, Optimization on stainless steel annealing furnaces

In steel industry the first scope 1 & 2 energy consumer/emitter in downstream** processes are the annealing or heat treatment furnaces. The technology used is mostly natural gas burning, with an average of 60/65% efficiency; roughly one third of the energy is left at the chimney. In the global decarbonation strategy of Aperam, actions on heating technologies are completed by capex-free optimization actions that target energy consumption decrease at product equivalent quality. Compared to extensive capex usage actions, these optimization activities have the advantage of delivering quick actions and quick wins. **Downstream = all the processes out of the steelmaking part; for Aperam the processes starting from hot rolling to the final coil state manufacturing
