Goals

- GCGW-12 is a multi–disciplinary international conference on the global warming and climate change issues and potential solutions, and will provide a forum for the exchange of latest technical information, the dissemination of the high-quality research results on the issues, the presentation of the new developments in the area of global warming and climate change, and the debate and shaping of future directions and priorities for better environment, sustainable development and energy security. The primary themes of the conference are global warming and climate change, not only in engineering and science but also in all other disciplines (e.g. ecology, education, social sciences, economics, management, political sciences, and information technology). Therefore, papers on related topics are solicited from all relevant disciplinary areas, ranging from current problems, projections, new concepts, modeling,

The Fluid Mechanics Technical Committee (FMTC) of the ASME Fluids Engineering Division is organizing a Symposium on Transport Phenomena in Energy Conversion from Clean and Sustainable Resources for the year 2012 ASME Fluids Engineering Summer Meeting.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE
There are widespread concerns due to the constantly rising cost and adverse environmental impacts of energy generation from traditional sources such as Natural Gas, Coal and Oil. To address these concerns effective and efficient energy conversion systems are being developed from a wide variety of clean and sustainable resources. Papers reporting on advances related to all aspects of transport phenomena during energy conversion from clean and sustainable resources are solicited. The proposed symposium will provide a platform for engineers and scientists to meet and present recent advances in the fluid mechanics, heat and mass transport issues related to energy generation from clean and sustainable resources. The papers can be experimental, numerical and/or analytical studies. The application of advanced diagnostic techniques or computational tools to study industrially relevant processes are especially welcomed. The papers may include, but are not necessarily limited to, topics reporting on energy generation from sustainable resources such as: • Solar • Fuel cells • Hydrogen • Nuclear • Biomas • Biofuels • Geothermal • Hydro • Wind • Ocean

Objective
CHT-12 will jointly sponsored by ICHMT, the University of Bath and the University of New South Wales, Australia. It will be held as a tribute to the memory of the late Professor Eddie Leonardi, co-founder of this series of CHT symposia, who was a former Chair of the Executive Committee of ICHMT, and a former Director of the CFD Research Laboratory of UNSW. It will be a recognition of his innumerable contributions to computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer.

The goal of the symposium is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, methods and results in computational heat transfer. Papers on all aspects of CHT – both fundamental and applied – will be welcome. Topics will include but are not limited to:

The 7th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems – SDEWES Conference, to be held in Ohrid in 2012, is dedicated to the improvement and dissemination of knowledge on methods, policies and technologies for increasing the sustainability of development by de-coupling growth from natural resources and replacing them with knowledge based economy, taking into account its economic, environmental and social pillars, as well as methods for assessing and measuring sustainability of development, regarding energy, transport, water, environment and food production systems and their many combinations. Sustainability being also a perfect field for interdisciplinary and multi-cultural evaluation of complex system, the SDEWES Conference has during the first decade of the 21st century become a significant venue for researchers in those areas to meet, and originate, discuss, share, and disseminate new ideas.

Objectifs

La seconde édition de l’école thématique Thermoélectricité, organisée par le GDR 3382 Thermoélectricité, se déroulera du 1er au 6 juillet 2012 à Ventron (88). Elle est destinée à toutes les personnes désireuses d'acquérir des compétences en thermoélectricité ou de les approfondir : doctorants, post-doctorants, ingénieurs ou encore chercheurs confirmés.
L’école visera aussi à favoriser les échanges entre jeunes chercheurs et chercheurs spécialisés. Une présentation de posters par les doctorants est prévue pour initier et faciliter les discussions. Une demi-journée de détente, en milieu de semaine, permettra d'assimiler les premiers cours et là-aussi de contribuer aux échanges entre les différents participants dans un cadre agréable.

The international symposium "Calorimetry and Thermal Effects in Catalysis" will be held in Lyon, France, on June 26-29, 2012, as a satellite conference of the 15th International Congress on Catalysis (Munich, July 1-6, 2012). The symposium's goal is to review and discuss the various approaches to the characterization of catalysts and supports using calorimetry and thermal analysis techniques (DSC, DTA, TG...) alone or linked to other analytical instruments. The range of practical applications includes adsorbents and catalysts, nanoporous materials, sol gel materials, membranes, etc. The symposium is intended for scientists and engineers from industry and academia who are involved in research and development of processes where catalysts or thermal analysis play a key role.
Invited lectures, oral presentations and poster sessions will cover the capabilities of such techniques, their practical problems and the latest advances in the practice of catalysts characterization.

About The Conference

This is the Eighteenth Symposium of the well-established series of conferences on thermophysical properties. The Symposium is concerned with theoretical, experimental, simulation, and applied aspects of the thermophysical properties of gases, liquids, and solids, including biological systems. Appropriate topics are:

• Thermodynamic Properties, including equation of state, phase equilibria, p-V-T behavior, heat capacity, enthalpy, thermal expansion, sound speed, and critical phenomena.
• Transport Properties, including thermal and electrical conductivity, viscosity, mass diffusion, thermal diffusion, non-Newtonian behavior, and thermal, thermoacoustic, and other diffusion waves.
• Optical and Thermal Radiative Properties, including dielectric constant, refractive index, emissivity, reflectivity, and absorptivity.

The Energy&Materials Research Conference (EMR2012), which will take place in Torremolinos (Malaga, Spain) from 20 to 22 June 2012, will bring together researchers and professionals from a broad set of science and engineering disciplines with the aim of sharing the latest developments and advances in materials, processes and systems involved in the energy generation, transmission-distribution and storage.

In the current situation, where world's energy system is likely to radically change in the next decades, research into materials, processes and systems is currently foreseen as a critical aspect in the development of cleaner and more efficient energy. In this conference series, researchers from very different academic backgrounds (from semiconductor physicists or organic chemists exploring new ways for improving conversion efficiency within solar cells, or electrochemists pursuing better performance and durability of fuel cell components, to microbiologists deepening on how engineered microorganisms can be exploited for generating useful energy, or engineers conceiving new designs for power plants), but with an unique interest in contributing to the global energy and environmental challenges, are expected to meet in a truly interdisciplinary atmosphere.

Furthermore, the course is addressed to Ph.D. students and post-doctoral researchers involved in this area of research.
